Personalized Customer Profile

MyCarMax is the branded profile and dashboard where customers can self-service and keep track of their shopping progress. I redesigned it to reflect customer preferences, activities, and notifications along their end-to-end journey. Prior to the years-long redesign, it was a static microsite that only stored the customer details without persisting much data to serve the customer anywhere else.

Customers are now able to track shipments, manage appointments, see finance updates, sell their cars to CarMax, and more.

As we discovered opportunities for MyCarMax we learned that customers wanted to see their progress and get credit for the work they do toward their purchase. We simplified the navigation and began reorganizing the dashboard around our customer’s vehicle purchasing mental models: shopping, financing, and selling/trading.

  • Shopping

    Customers often tell us that they want a place to review their actions on the cars they’re considering. The shopping tab enables customer visibility and builds confidence in their progress and decisions.

  • My Budget

    Yes, it’s an odd title. But, customers’ bottom lines ultimately determine what they can afford. For most, it makes sense to calculate, locate loan decisions, and find recommendations for their budget in one place.

  • Appraisals

    Acquiring vehicles is an essential aspect of our business. Appraisals also play an important role in what cars a customer can afford. This required coordinating with a different part of CarMax’s business.
